Is the northernmost province (changwat) of Thailand. Neighbouring provinces are (from east clockwise) Phayao, Lampang and Chiang Mai. In the north it borders Shan State of Myanmar and Bokeo of Laos.The average elevation of the province is 580 m. The north of the province belongs to the so-called Golden Triangle, at which the borders of Thailand, Laos and Burma converge - an area which was unsafe because of the drug smuggling across the borders. The Mekong river forms the boundary with Laos, the Mae Sai and Ruak River to Burma. Through the town of Chiang Rai itself, flows the 'Mae Kok' Kok River and south of it the Lao River, a tributary of the Kok. Chiang Rai province is intersected by Asian Highway 2, which runs over 13.000 km (over 8000 miles) from Denpasar in Indonesia to Kosravi in Iran, and by Asian Highway 3, which runs for over 7,000 km (4,300 mi) from Kentung in Myanmar to Ulan-Ude in Russia.

. Wat Rong Khun ( วัดร่องขุน )
Is a contemporary unconventional Buddhist temple in Chiang Rai, Thailand. It was designed by Chalermchai Kositpipat. Construction began in 1996 and is expected to be completed 60 - 90 years after the death of the artist and designer.
. Doi Thung - Mae Fah Luang flower garden ( ดอยตุ่ง - สวนดอกไม้แม่ฟ้าหลวง )
Doi Tung is located in Mae Fa Luang District and can be reached by taking Highway No.110 for about 48 kilometers and turning left onto Highway No. 1149, an asphalt road leading directly to Doi Tung. The route winds through beautiful scenery with many interesting sites including the Doi Tung Palace (Pra Tamnak Doi tung), the Mae Fa Luang Garden and Akha and Muser tribal villages. IN addition to scenic lookouts, the most notable attraction is the Phra That Doi Tung Holy Relic, an old religious site atop the mountain.

Located approximately 2 kilometers north of the illustrious white temple in the Chiang Rai Province you will encounter the much celebrated Black House. It consists of a collection of almost 40 houses where the color black predominates and where death is showcased in many forms and certainly not for the weak hearted.

Is situated in the Thai highlands on Doi Mae Salong mountain of the Daen Lao Range, in Mae Fa luang district, Chiang Rai Province, the northernmost province of Thailand. The area has an alpine-like landscape and climate, and is known for its hill tribe villages, tea plantations and cherry blossoms.

Khoon Korn Waterfalls Botanical Garden is located in the area of Tambon Mae Korn and Tambon Huay Chompoo, Muang District, Chiang Rai Province which falls within the left side of Pa Mae Lao and right side of Pa Mae Kok National Forest Reserves. The total area is approximately 1,000 rais and was announced, by the Royal Forest Department, as a botanical garden on 21st January, 1982.

The Golden Triangle (สามเหลี่ยมทองคำ Saam Liam Thong Kham) is in Chiang Rai Province, in the far north of Thailand. The English name comes from the meeting of Laos, Myanmar and Thailand here, but to the locals it's Sop Ruak, since this is where the Mekong meets the Ruak River.

Mea Sai About 62 kilometres from the Chiang rai province on Highway No. 110 is Thailand’s northern-most district. Mae Sai (แม่สาย), borders on Myanmar’s Tha Khi Lek (ท่าขี้เหล็ก) marked by the Mae Sai River with a bridge spanning both sides. Chiang Rai : How to Get There from Bangkok
By Air
Thai Airways International (TG), Orient Thai Airlines and Air Asia operate daily flights between Bangkok and Chiang Rai. The flight takes about 1.15 hrs.
By Bus
There are both air-conditioned and non-aircon bus services from Bangkok's Northern Bus Terminal on Kamphaengphet 2 Road. The journey takes about 11 hrs.
By Car
Take Highway No. 1 (Phahonyothin Road), turn to No. 32 passing Ayutthaya, Angthong, Singburi, change to No. 11 passing Phitsanulok, Uttaradit, Phrae, then turn left to Highway No. 103, drive on until passing Ngao district and turn right to Highway No. 1 which takes you to Phayao and then to Chiang Rai. The whole distance is 785 km.
